Care Technologist Training Project
Welcome to NCF’s Care Technologist Training Project

The Care Technologist Training Project is helping to create a new type of professional in adult social care. A Care Technologist is someone who works with people who draw on care and support to help them find and use technology that can improve their ability to make choices, stay independent, stay well, and connect with others. This role helps connect traditional models of care and support with new technology. Scottish Care created the role of Care Technologist and following a successful test of change, evidenced that this innovative role can deliver great outcomes for those who draw on care and support. Their implementation of the role has also proven to be beneficial to staff recruitment and retention in the adult social care sector. Have a look at the work of Scottish Care around the Care Technologist role here.
The project will develop and deliver a new Care Technologist training programme to help those who are interested in becoming Care Technologists to gain the skills and confidence they need to support people who draw on care and support to find and use technology that will be beneficial to them.
We know that more people working in adult social care are getting involved with identifying and implementing technology as part of their care and support offer. They may not be called a Care Technologist, but they are likely to be doing various aspects of the new Care Technologist role. This project wants to develop a training programme which will support those undertaking these activities but also to promote the adoption and embedding of the Care Technologist role across all adult social care services.
This is a three-year project funded by the Rayne Foundation through their Better Careers, Better Care programme.
What does a Care Technologist do?
Care Technologists are skilled professionals who bridge the gap between conventional care methods and modern technological solutions. They play a crucial role in developing personalised technology plans that meet the unique needs of individuals, ensuring that technology enhances their care and support experience. They will work with people to identify relevant technology and create personalised technology plans, support, setup and install and provide ongoing support for technology solutions to ensure they are making a positive difference to the individual.
Would you like to be involved in the Care Technologist project?
We are looking for people to help us develop the training programme by joining Discovery Workshops and telling us more about their current use of technology in care and support or their ambitions to use technology. We are also looking for people to sign up to complete our Care Technologist training programme.
