Day 6
Today we have three more inspiring stories from Somerset Care
Ted’s trip to the cells
Former City of London police officer Ted, a resident at Stockmoor Lodge, fulfilled his wish to revisit a police station. Thanks to the care team and the local police, Ted enjoyed a VIP tour hosted by PSCO Tom. He explored the station, inspected handcuffs, admired awards, and even got “locked up” in the cells—though he made it back for dinner! The day brought back fond memories, ending with Ted sharing stories of his career over coffee with fellow residents.
Stockmoor Lodge community colour run
Stockmoor Lodge celebrated Care Home Open Week with a vibrant colour run, inviting the local community to join the fun. The route started and ended at the home, with participants covered in colourful powder paint. The event raised £584.84 for the residents’ amenities fund, which will support future activities like outings and special entertainment. It was a fantastic day, bringing together schools, councillors, businesses, and neighbours in support of the Bridgwater care home.
Reigniting treasured memories for Dave
A conversation about Tyneham Village sparked vivid memories for Dave, a Grovelands resident living with dementia. Dave recalled his time at Middle Wallop airfield, where he trained, married his wife Jackie, and welcomed his daughter. Inspired by his stories, the care team organized a trip to Tyneham, a village frozen in time since 1943. The visit reignited treasured memories for Dave and highlighted the incredible power of revisiting meaningful experiences, as part of Grovelands’ commitment to person-centred care
