Not-for-profit quality care for over 25 years

Day 9

Today we have not two but three inspiring stories from ECL

Transitioning from Firefighter to Support Worker in the Care Sector

Nick, a retired firefighter from Essex Fire Service with 29 years of service, found himself at a career crossroads when early retirement became necessary due to job cuts. Nick was keen to find a job that provided the ‘feel-good’ factor he cherished, while providing a stable income and work-life balance. His search for meaningful work led him to the care sector, where he began a new chapter in his professional life as a Support Worker with ECL Brentwood Day Centre for people with Learning Disabilities. This is his story.

Oliver’s Journey to Day Opportunities Lead Manager at ECL

With 15 years of experience in the care sector, Oliver’s dedication to older people (OP) care shines through. His career began in a residential care home, but after a brief stint in the catering industry (which lasted only two weeks!), he quickly returned to his true calling: caring for older people. Here he shares why he loves his job.

Partnership with Essex Fire Service ensures safety of the sensory impaired

An Essex-based sensory support service has developed a formidable partnership with Essex County Fire and Rescue Service to ensure its services are accessible to everyone with sight and/or hearing loss.

ECL’s Sensory Service, which supports people with sensory impairments to live independently, leads the Sensory Action Alliance, a network of organisations across Essex that work together to improve the lives of people with sensory loss.

A key member of the Sensory Action Alliance since 2020, Essex County Fire and Rescue Service shares how its partnership with ECL has benefitted the organisation and the community it serves with the release of a film to encourage others to join.
