Day 14

Today we have three more inspiring stories of care from Friends of The Elderly

Cheeky Elves Spend Day At Charity’s Alton Care Home

At The Lawn, a care home in Alton run by Friends of the Elderly, residents celebrated National Elf Day with fun activities inspired by cheeky elves. The day featured Christmas songs, festive cheer, and the care team dressing as elves to spread holiday joy. Residents enjoyed a Christmas-themed exercise class, a special Elf Lunch where they shared fond memories of past Christmases, and a creative activity where they made “Elf Self” portraits. The day ended with mince pies and watching the movie Elf. Everyone had a joyful time, embracing the spirit of the season. Check for more here.

Ann Scoops The Unsung Hero – Making Care Possible Accolade

At Redcot, a care home run by Friends of the Elderly in Haslemere, the residents and staff celebrated Ann Essam, an Activities Coordinator who won the ‘Unsung Hero – Making Care Possible’ Award at the Surrey Care Awards. Ann, who returned to work after retiring in 2001, was overwhelmed with joy when she received the award. She describes the residents as her “family” and loves spending each day with them. Ann designs personalized activities for the residents, from sing-alongs to arts and crafts, ensuring each resident’s needs and interests are met. Her hard work and dedication to improving residents’ wellbeing were praised by her colleagues, who consider her an essential part of the team. Ann feels honored by the recognition but believes all nominees were equally deserving. Check for more here.
