Day 20

Here’s today’s inspiring videos from members

The amazing pantomime at Saxonwood Care, organised by Sussex Housing and Care, was a fun and exciting event for the residents. The show was full of laughter, bright costumes, and plenty of interaction. It brought joy to everyone, with funny moments, music, and colourful characters. The panto created a happy and festive atmosphere, making it a special time for the residents to enjoy together and celebrate the holiday season.

Residents from Greensleeves Care’s homes across country are warming up hearts this winter with their blend of nostalgia and good humour.

They include heartwarming stories like that from Janet Hunt, 92, who lives in Kingston House, Wiltshire. Janet recalls: “We used to slide down the hills. We had a lot of fun, but mostly I remember my pony Jacko. Dad built a big shed in the field so that Jacko would be able to get out of the cold and snow. My Mum would give me a big crust of bread to take down to Jacko. I would run up to the field and put my hands around my mouth and shout his name and he would come running. I would give him the bread and he gobbled it up as if it were chocolate. Then he would put his head on my shoulder and I put my arms around his neck and said ‘I love you Jacko’. If I sit and close my eyes I can still feel my Dad’s arms around me lifting me up to put me on Jacko’s back.”

Gathered to mark the start of Greensleeves Care’s Warmth of Care seasonal campaign, and led by the activity teams in each home, the initiative took place recognising that conversation and memory recall are key to living well and happily and that sparking old memories is beneficial to older adults. The memories have also been shared on social media, prompting others to share their own warming winter stories, and even suggestions to pull the collection into a book.

To support people across the country Warmth of Care campaign also includes free online resources and advice as well as a Big Warm Up day on Saturday 25 January where Greensleeves Care homes will open their doors to local communities.
