- Former aircraft engineer David Auld, 89, relived his Air Canada glory days with a thrilling flight simulator experience, visiting past destinations. The memorable day, made possible by Queens Care Home staff in Ayrshire, left David beaming with joy and a commemorative flight certificate. - Former ecologist Alan ‘Shep’ Shepherd, 71, was overjoyed to receive a handwritten letter from his hero, Sir David Attenborough, commending his lifelong dedication to the natural world. Sir David heard about Shep’s passion for wildlife after the home’s activities coordinator Kate Lockwood wrote to him, sharing Shep’s inspiring story. Shep said: “It is like receiving a letter from a god!” The cherished letter now hangs framed in Shep’s room, at Westmead Residential Care Home in Droitwich, celebrating his inspiring work in conservation. - Allanbank Care Home in Dumfries celebrated Pride with a vibrant cabaret and karaoke afternoon, led by activities coordinator and performer Nick Barry, aka Miss Tiffany Rose. - Residents at Chyvarhas Care Home in Cornwall enjoyed a lively Wild West-themed hoedown, complete with a barn dance, live music, and country-inspired décor. The event celebrated the residents’ love of country music. Vern Goulding, aged 82 said: “I’ve always loved country music, so this was a really special day. Making memories at Plymouth Football Club. Our Furzehatt Residential and Nursing Home resident, Gloria, had an unforgettable day cheering on her favourite team at Plymouth Football Club, with carer, Lyndsey, by her side.
6. To mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day, residents at Watlington and District Nursing Home in Oxfordshire, honoured the occasion by dressing in uniforms, paying tribute to the historic event.
7. Cooking up joy at Westwood House Care Home in East Kilbride! Residents teamed up in the home’s kitchen to prepare ‘Mincare de Cartofi’, a Romanian dish from activities coordinator Rahella’s family recipe. From spotless veggies to expert chopping, everyone played their part, earning a 10/10 rating from the other residents. Moments like these bring social connection, laughter and a sense of achievement.
