On Friday 20th June from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m., the care team and residents at Redcot, the Haslemere-based residential care home run by charity, Friends of the Elderly, will be setting sail for sunnier climes and hosting a Community Caribbean Party to celebrate and support this year’s Care Home Open Week.
“To champion this year’s Care Home Open Week, we wanted to host a fun, fully accessible and inclusive community event,” said Staci Abernethy, the Manager at Redcot. “The residents are great film buffs and love The Pirates of the Caribbean films, so what better theme to choose for the day?”
“There will be something for everyone to enjoy,” added Jenny Ryder, one of the Activity Coordinators at Redcot. “In addition to a delicious BBQ – or “Barbacoa”, a word derived from The Arawaks, an indigenous people from the Caribbean meaning a frame used for cooking meat – prepared by our in-house Chef ‘Captain Helen’, and refreshments, there will be a raft of Caribbean-themed activities for everyone to enjoy, including The Redcot Limbo Competition, with lots of prizes to be won.”
“Supporting and celebrating Care Home Open Week 2025 by hosting our own Community Caribbean Party gives us a unique opportunity and platform to be able to demonstrate and show how the care team is devoted to supporting those they care for to a wider audience,” continued Staci.
Staci and the Care Team will also be on hand to give guided tours of the care home which will take in all of the Redcot’s many stunning areas – including the residents’ very own pub, The Redcot Arms.
Visitors will be able to see how spacious, elegant and airy the rooms are, and see the cheerful communal areas which are ideal for entertaining family and friends. “Redcot is full of light – and laughter – and our lovely lounge is also a great place to relax or socialise,” added Jenny.
“The Community Caribbean Party is going to be festival of fun and we are asking that everyone wears something bright to add to the Calypso atmosphere,” continued Staci. “Everyone at Redcot is looking forward to welcoming our local community, prospective residents and respite clients, their families and friends to share in our Community Caribbean Community Party. There will be no walking the plank, just plenty of Ahoy and Avast, Me Hearties! for a great time.”
